After a decade of exploration, I discovered Komba, a flow drilling technique that transforms play fighting into a meditative and interactive space. By temporarily removing force from combat training, individuals can move freely, exploring various styles within an adaptable and demand-centric framework. The No-Force Komba flow drill serves as a gateway to discovering personal movement and understanding the essence of motion.
Embracing Komba as a collective battle, I, as a Free Style Martial Artist, found the ideal platform to engage with almost any type of weaponry. Through self-taught techniques, I can effortlessly spin a variety of weapons, utilizing momentum for shuffling and striking. Komba's general gameplay facilitates multidisciplinary training.
While recognizing that Komba may not always represent the most effective form, it serves as a unique context for efficient and elegant actions in the moment we create. Komba becomes a meeting ground for excellence, fostering the flow of effortless action (wu wei wu) in an ideal training battlefield.
Typically, we engage in meditative or competitive drills individually. However, the concept extends to group training, allowing simultaneous styles and goals, fostering free movement between training modules. Additionally, Komba serves as a valuable training ground for more serious fighting styles.
